New Year's Eve bingo is a called party game for the hours before midnight. Each guest gets a different card, and the host calls items like fireworks, party hats and confetti. The first full line wins. We suggest 3×3 for young kids and 5×5 for adults. Words-only cards are free; the illustrated PDF is $4.99 once per set.

New Year's Eve bingo is a called game that fills the hours before midnight. Kids and grown-ups can play at the same party, each on their own card. Build your item list from the 80 ideas on this page, then add your own.
Any party with a countdown works, as long as each guest has a card.
Family parties. Picture cards let kids who can't read yet play on their own. Run a kids' round on a small grid before bedtime, with its own prize.
Grown-up parties. Words-only cards suit a party for adults, with party moments instead of objects: a champagne toast, someone asleep before midnight. The host ticks each moment on the call sheet when it happens, and guests mark it. Moments don't come up in random order, so the call counts below don't apply to them.
Offices and classrooms. An office can play over lunch in the last week of December. A class can play in the first week back in January, on picture cards with fireworks, a party hat and a clock at midnight.
Plan the night in calls, not clock time. A round to the first line is short, so several fit before the countdown. Each number is the median count of calls to a first row, column or diagonal, with a 40-item list. The range in parentheses covers at least 8 games in 10.
| Grid | Calls, 20 players | Calls, 50 players |
|---|---|---|
| 3×3 | 5 (2–7) | 3 (2–5) |
| 4×4 | 11 (8–15) | 10 (7–12) |
| 5×5 | 13 (9–16) | 11 (8–13) |
Source: our simulation: 10,000 decks per setup, 100 games each.
Start with a quick 3×3 kids' round early in the evening. Play single-line rounds on 5×5 in the middle of the night.
No two cards in a deck share a complete winning line. That doesn't rule out ties: two players can still win on the same call with different lines. In our simulation, that happened in about 8% to 20% of games. On a 5×5, it was 15.7% at 20 players and 19.2% at 50. Pick a tie rule before the first call: split the prize, or call one more item.
A single line ends a round fastest. For the last round, announce a harder pattern before the first call. Four corners or an X through both diagonals both work. So does a postage stamp: a 2×2 block, usually in a corner. A blackout covers the whole card, so save it for the run-up to the countdown.
On a 5×5 with a free space, a blackout needs all 24 items of one card called, so at least 24 calls. Our call counts cover a single line only, so expect other patterns to take longer.
Want a New Year's bingo printable written for your own crowd? Start your New Year's list: describe the party in one sentence, and "Write my list" drafts 30 items. "Suggest 6 more items" adds more, up to 60. Aim for about 40, the list size our numbers use. Then pick one of 5 picture styles, such as Watercolor or Coloring page. For illustrated cards, see pricing. For other occasions, see Christmas bingo or birthday bingo.
Pick one caller and give each guest a card and some markers. The caller reads items from the call sheet and ticks each one. You can also cut out its squares and draw them from a bowl. Players cover every match. The first full row, column or diagonal wins. If your 3×3 or 5×5 card has a free space, the center counts as marked. Before you hand out a prize, check the card against the ticks.
Bingo comes in a few styles for the same night. Called picture bingo suits mixed ages: the host calls fireworks, a party hat or a disco ball, and everyone marks them. Countdown-show bingo runs while the TV is on, with squares like the countdown clock on screen, a musical performance, confetti on TV and the ball drop. The host ticks each moment on the call sheet when it happens, and guests mark it. Other classics work too, like charades or a drawing game.
Use gold and silver foil-wrapped chocolates as markers. Keep a basket of small prizes, and let each winner call the next round. Pour sparkling cider so the kids can join the toast. On illustrated cards, match the picture style to the crowd: Cartoon for kids, Vintage for a grown-up party.
On BingoCard Lab, words-only cards are free and unlimited, with no email needed. The free PDF carries a small logo. You can also preview one illustrated set in full for free. To download its illustrated PDF, you need an Event pass ($4.99 once per set) or Pro.
Count in calls, not minutes. With a 40-item list and 20 players, a 5×5 round to the first line takes a median of 13 calls, and a 3×3 kids' round takes 5. So several rounds fit in one evening. Looking for a card of goals to mark off over the year instead? See the 2027 bingo card.
